Get the APIIP Geolocation is the process of determining the geographic location of a device connected to the internet using its IP address. Every device connected to the internet has a unique IP address that can be mapped to a physical location with varying degrees of accuracy.
Keep in mind that geolocation tells you where an IP is registered — not whether the visitor is actually there. VPNs, datacenter egress, and residential proxies all break that assumption, so for fraud or abuse checks pair a location lookup with our VPN and residential proxy detector.
IP Geolocation provides approximate location data only. It cannot reveal exact addresses or personal information. The data shown is publicly available and commonly used for legitimate purposes like content delivery and security.
Internet Service Providers (ISPs) are allocated blocks of IP addresses by regional internet registries. These registries maintain databases of which IP ranges belong to which organizations and regions.
Geolocation databases map IP address ranges to geographic locations by combining data from registries, ISPs, and other sources. These databases are continuously updated to maintain accuracy.
When you query an IP address, the geolocation service searches its database to find the matching IP range and returns the associated location data, ISP information, and other network details.
